Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is the most commonly deployed AI capability

The recent report “The state of AI in 2022—and a half decade in review” by McKinsey shared some interesting insights into AI adoption and impact:

• Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is the most commonly deployed AI capability, unchanged from 2021

• Adoption of natural language text understanding has surged given the widespread interest in Large Language Models since the release of ChatGPT

• In terms of use cases, AI is mostly commonly utilized in the optimization of service operations and the creation of new AI-based products

• Companies reported the biggest top-line benefits from applying AI to marketing and sales, as well as product and service development

• On the other hand, the largest cost benefits accrue from deploying AI in supply chain management

The bottom-line: In spite of the increasing democratization of technology, companies who are leaders in AI are actually expanding their competitive advantages over their peers. As we enter into the new era of generative AI, all companies need to look into embedding AI and Automation into their digital blueprint or risk falling into oblivion.
