The introduction of ChatGPT in late 2022 has heralded a new era in AI. Already, it is the fastest-growing consumer application in history, having reached 100 million monthly users a mere 2 months after launch.
If the last decade in AI was all about supervised learning, then the coming decade seems likely to be dominated by generative AI (GenAI).
According to Gartner’s “Hype Cycle for Artificial Intelligence, 2023” report, there are 2 categories of GenAI innovations that bear watching:
1. Innovations that will be fueled by GenAI
2. Innovations that will fuel advances in GenAI
And with so much hype surrounding GenAI and ChatGPT alike, it is interesting to note that several technologies are fast approaching maturity — Computer Vision, Intelligent Application/Automation and Cloud AI Services.
For example, GenAI helps to address the limitations of traditional automation technologies like RPA. As a result, many of the enterprise use cases that were previously unfeasible (both technically and commercially) are now unlocked.
