According to a survey conducted by Straits Interactive, 68% of the SMEs in Singapore are planning to or have already adopted generative AI (Gen AI) technologies within their organizations.
While the high adoption is to be lauded, it is worth noting that more than half (58%) of the SMEs have only unofficially implemented ChatGPT, meaning employees may use ChatGPT if they want to.
In addition, 54% of the SMEs have no plans to establish formal policies governing the use of Gen AI and ChatGPT. The lack of proper guidance, frameworks and processes pertaining to the use of Gen AI poses a concern, given the myriad of risk factors include:
- Data confidentiality
- Privacy and security
- Accuracy and authentication issues
- Copyright infringement
- Ethical concerns, including fairness
- Explanability
In this regard, it is important for SMEs to establish a formal HR policy governing the use of Gen AI technologies.
