Key findings from the recent report “Assessing the value of AI and automation” by technology analyst firm Valoir:
• Automation is already under way at many organizations, with workers automating an average of 20 percent of their work in the past two years
• Workers could see significant automation through generative AI and other technologies, with 40 percent of the tasks of the average work day ripe for automation
The data is backed up by surveys of workers on the share of their day they spent on 13 different work tasks, such as reading and responding to e-mails, entering data, talking on the phone, etc.
The conclusion is clear. To succeed, businesses need to combine AI and automation to eliminate as much manual tasks as possible. This is the easy part. The challenge lies in motivating the existing employees to take advantage of this shift, and to redesign and pivot the company to thrive in this new operating landscape.
